Erling Haaland's form since arriving at Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund over the summer has been simply ridiculous.

The giant Norwegian striker has already plundered 19 goals in 12 games for the reigning Premier League champions - and he's barely appeared to break a sweat in the process.

The man is an absolute cheat code at present. Already the fastest man to hit three top-flight hat-tricks by an absolute mile, Haaland looks primed to destroy a host of other records before the season is done.

Haaland looks a certainty for the 2022/23 Golden Boot after just eight games

To a Premier League striker, the Golden Boot (the prize awarded to the season's top scorer) is one of the most prized individual accolades in all of the game.

Last season, the award was shared by Liverpool's Mo Salah and Tottenham's Son Heung-min, who each notched 23 goals across the entire campaign.

Barely two months into the season, Haaland is only 10 goals short of exceeding that total. Barring injury, the 22-year-old is a shoo-in for this year's trophy.

Haaland should sail past the 2021/22 total by Christmas if he continues to show anything like his current form.

Erling Haaland quiz: 20 questions about the Norwegian striker

The ease with which the striker has turned the Premier League into his personal playground has even prompted rival supporters to start up petitions to have him removed from the competition to give other teams a chance to compete.

That sentiment isn't necessarily surprising from fans, but when fellow players start making the same point, you know we're in unchartered territory.

Speaking to West Ham's Mikhail Antonio the BBC's Footballer's Football podcast, Newcastle and England frontman Callum Wilson conceded that the rest of the league is playing for second place behind Haaland in the Golden Boot race.

He even jokingly declared that he wants a 'Silver Boot' consolation prize introduced so that he and his peers have a prize they can realistically compete for.

"As strikers we are competing against that, do you know what I mean? So obviously for a striker you score the most goals, there’s a Golden Boot at the end of the season. That’s out of the picture, that’s gone.

"He needs his own boot and then we need another boot. We need a Silver Boot I think nowadays. We need a little something to make it fair. I think this year, personally, he is going to break the record for the most goals scored in a Premier League season.”

Antonio laughs at his co-host's suggestion, before stating that he expects Haaland to more than treble his Premier League goal haul before the season is out.

"I’m saying 45 goals, and I say that minimum," Antonio predicted.

While the two players are having a bit of laugh over Haaland's dominance, it's hard to see anyone being able to deal with the City new boy in his current mood.

Southampton are the next team that will have to try and keep tabs on Haaland as they travel to the Etihad Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Is an unprecedented fourth-straight home Premier League hat-trick in the offing? We wouldn't bet against it!
