Erling Haaland scored yet again for Manchester City as they beat Southampton 4-0 on Saturday.

The Norwegian grabbed his 20th goal of the season in all competitions - although failed to score a fourth consecutive home Premier League hat-trick.

The goal took Haaland's league tally to 15 in nine appearances. Quite stupendous.

The City man remains seven goals clear of Harry Kane in the race for the Premier League Golden Boot with the Tottenham striker also scoring in their win against Brighton.

While Haaland already has one hand on the Golden Boot in England's top-flight, there's one accolade that he's not clear in.

We're talking about the European Golden Shoe.

What's the European Golden Shoe?

The European Golden Shoe is the award given to the leading goalscorer in league matches from the top division of a European league.

The current holder is Robert Lewandowski, while Lionel Messi has claimed the award on six occasions.

However, the trophy isn't necessarily dished out to the player who scores the most goals. That's because there's a scoring system.

Goals scored in the top five leagues according to the UEFA coefficients list are multiplied by two, goals scored in the leagues ranked 6 to 22 are multiplied by 1.5, and goals scored in leagues ranked 22 and below are multiplied by one. It means goals scored in higher ranked leagues will count for more than those scored in weaker leagues.

Who is leading the European Golden Shoe this season?

And while Haaland currently leads the way, he's actually level on points with a certain Amahl Pellegrino, who plays for Bodo/Glimt.

Haaland's 15 Premier League goals have given him 30 points, while Pellegrino's 20 strikes have been multiplied by 1.5 to also give him 30 points.

While they may be level on points, we should point out that Pellegrino has actually played 24 league games this season and only has six more left. It won't be long until Haaland breaks away from him.

So who else is in the rankings?

In third place is Alexander Jeremejeff on 21 points having scored 21 goals for BK Häcken in the Swedish league.

Bobur Abdikholikov and Raimonds Krollis complete the top five scoring 20 goals for Energetik-BGU Minsk and Valmiera respectively.

Okay, so the majority of players in the top 10 play in leagues that are coming to an end and will probably be displaced by major European strikers.

A few are already making their way up the leaderboard with Robert Lewandowski in 8th with his nine Barcelona goals so far this season.

Further down the table, you'll see Kylian Mbappe (15th) and Neymar (16th).

Guardiola was 'upset' with Haaland after Southampton win

After City's 4-0 win over Southampton - and another Haaland goal - Pep Guardiola joked that he was upset with the striker for not grabbing another hat trick.

"I'm so upset with him he didn't score three goals, that's why the petition is to sack him for the Premier League," he joked.

"It happens [the first-half miss]. The expectation is so high people expect he'll score three or four goals every game. In the end he was there to score it. He helped to keep the ball, fight. Erling played really good today too."
