Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard 'raves' about Ben Chrisene and the teenager is highly-rated at Villa Park, according to Birmingham Live journalist Ashley Preece.

While the Midlands giants spent more than £60million during the summer transfer window, Chrisene secured a temporary move away from the club.

What's the latest news involving Chrisene?

Chrisene sealed a season-long loan switch to Scottish Premiership side Kilmarnock days before the September 1 deadline and has already excelled north of the border.

The 18-year-old has become a key member of the squad and only missed seven minutes of his loan club's last seven fixtures.

Following a man of the match performance against Hearts at the weekend, Chrisene admitted he gets an 'extra buzz before each matchday' and is thoroughly enjoying his time with Kilmarnock.

Prior to his loan move, the left-back worked closely with the first team and was involved in the pre-season tour of Australia.

But Chrisene has not been handed a senior Villa appearance since he was a member of the youthful side which faced Liverpool in the FA Cup third round in 2021.

What has Ashley Preece said about Chrisene?

Preece understands that Gerrard is a huge admirer of Chrisene and the youngster has developed his game since joining from League One side Exeter City two years ago.

The journalist believes a campaign north of the border will only aid Chrisene and he is not surprised to see him in impressive form.

Preece told GIVEMESPORT: "Gerrard raves about him. He's come on leaps and bounds. He was part of the Villa first team for their tour in Australia in the summer.

"Villa think really highly of him and I think that loan move up to Kilmarnock, in the Scottish Premiership, will do him the world of good. He has already made a big impact up there and I thought he would anyway."

Will Chrisene break into Villa's starting line-up next season?

Although Chrisene enjoyed an international break to remember as he claimed his first two caps for the England under-19 side during wins over Montenegro and Georgia last month, it is unlikely that he will find himself at the top of the left-back pecking order at Villa Park ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.

That is because Lucas Digne joined from Premier League rivals Everton in a deal worth up to £25million in January and the Frenchman has made the left-back slot his own when fully fit.

An initial loan deal was also negotiated with La Liga giants Sevilla for Ludwig Augustinsson during the summer, although Villa could make the switch permanent and leave Chrisene with another hurdle to overcome.

There are doubts over Ashley Young's future as his current contract is due to expire in the summer, but it is unlikely that Chrisene will be starting at left-back on the opening day of next season.
