Crystal Palace have found the ‘perfect blend’ in their sporting director Dougie Freedman, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The 48-year-old has been crucial to the Eagles’ transformation both on and off the pitch in recent years and has been rewarded for his contributions with a new contract.

What is the latest news involving Freedman?

David Ornstein of The Athletic recently revealed that Freedman has put pen to paper on fresh terms after helping to overhaul Palace’s ageing first-team squad.

The improved deal is said to be recognition both of the ‘esteem’ in which the former Scotland international is held across the industry, but also the board’s ‘shared ambition’ to continue the team’s development.

Ornstein states that the new contract should ensure Freedman continues to drive the Palace’s recruitment as they aim to extend their stay in the Premier League beyond a decade.

After four years of pragmatism under Roy Hodgson, current manager Patrick Vieira has brought some excitement, attacking verve, and youth to Selhurst Park, breathing fresh hope into everyone associated with the capital club.

What has Jones said about Freedman?

In an interview with GiveMeSport, Jones said: “Definitely yeah, he's been such a key figure and implemented this transfer strategy, and it's all looking really impressive.

“It's a good example to other clubs in how finding someone that is bright enough to hold such a significant role but also has the understanding of the club's past and the values that each new player needs to be true to in order to succeed.

“So, I think that Palace have found the perfect blend in Freedman, and it's really good news for them that that is going to continue.”

How good a job has Freedman done?

Freedman was behind the bold decision to allow multiple experienced campaigners such as Gary Cahill, Andros Townsend, James McCarthy and Wayne Hennessey to depart on free transfers last summer.

In their place, several intriguing youthful stars arrived in the shape of Marc Guehi, Michael Olise and Odsonne Edouard, sparking a new chapter in Palace’s history.

Vieira guided his charges to a 12th placed finish in his maiden campaign at the helm last term while also reaching the semi-finals of the FA Cup, indicating Freedman’s gamble paid off.

Palace will now be hoping to build on those solid foundations for many years to come, and Freedman is likely to be central to their potential success.
