Chelsea will be relieved that defender Wesley Fofana is only out for a few weeks, says journalist Dean Jones.

The French youngster damaged his knee in his side's 3-0 win against AC Milan earlier this month and had to be taken off, but the injury is not as serious as first feared.

What is the latest injury news involving Fofana?

To the relief of Chelsea supporters, manager Graham Potter has confirmed that Fofana is not likely to be out of action for too long.

"Wesley’s knee’s not as bad as we thought after the game, so that’s good because it was a cause for concern at the time, but it will still be a few weeks I think," the former Brighton boss recently told the club's official website.

He later went on to add: "It’s just a knee strain, so there’s a possibility we might see him play again before the World Cup.

"It depends on how his rehab goes. I don’t want to put too much of a timescale on it, but there’s a chance of that."

What has Jones said about Fofana's injury?

Jones thinks it is great news that the Stamford Bridge faithful could see Fofana make a return to action just before the World Cup.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the journalist said: "I mean, it's definitely a relief and it's good to know that he [Potter] is still going to have depth to call upon. We know this is a busy period of games, so if Fofana's back for the back end of that, it makes it easier to deal with."

How has Fofana started his Chelsea career?

The knee injury he picked up is disappointing, but overall Fofana will be pleased with how things are going for him at Chelsea following his £70m move (via BBC Sport) from Leicester City during the summer.

It was, of course, the 21-year-old who set the Blues on the path to victory in their first encounter with AC Milan this season after opening the scoring in the 3-0 win.

He has also helped them to pick up a couple of wins in the Premier League after featuring in the triumphs over West Ham and Crystal Palace, his only top-flight games for his new club so far.

Looking at all of that, Fofana, who has been described as a "phenomenal talent" by his former manager Brendan Rodgers, has undoubtedly made a positive start to his career at Chelsea.
