Tottenham Hotspur star Djed Spence is set to hold discussions over his Hotspur Way future and a loan departure could be on the cards, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The north Londoners spent more than £150million during the summer window, with the right-back being among those to join Antonio Conte's charges.

What's the latest news involving Spence?

Spence made the £19million switch from Championship side Middlesbrough in July, but it quickly became clear that he had a battle on his hands to persuade Tottenham boss Conte that he is a valuable asset.

That is because the Italian confirmed it was the club’s decision to force through the move and pursuing the 22-year-old was not his personal choice.

Spence, who penned a five-year contract when he arrived at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, has found opportunities hard to come by.

He has been restricted to just one minute of action, as a late substitute during the win over Nottingham Forest in August, and is clearly not in the forefront of Conte's plans.

Although Spence has not been getting regular action at club level, he took his number of England under-21 caps up to four after starting the win over Italy during the international break last month.

What has Dean Jones said about Spence?

Jones would not be shocked if Spence is allowed to secure a loan move away from Tottenham when the transfer window reopens for business at the turn of the year.

The journalist believes the full-back's future will be discussed behind the scenes in the coming weeks.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: "I have said for a while that it would not surprise me if Djed Spence was made available for loan in January.

"I think it will depend on the depth of options Spurs have by that stage but, certainly, it is something that is going to be discussed."

Should Spurs send Spence out on loan?

Tottenham are currently well stocked at right wing-back, with the likes of Emerson Royal, Matt Doherty and Ivan Perisic already providing Conte with options.

With that being the case, Spence may be better off spending the second half of the season elsewhere in an attempt to prove the Spurs chief, who was appointed last November, that he should be considered for a more regular role next term.

Spence actually worked his way onto the capital club's radar during a temporary spell with Nottingham Forest, where he showed his attacking and defensive capabilities by chalking up eight goal contributions in 46 outings.

His performances were pivotal in the Reds earning promotion to the Premier League for the first time in 23 years, so there is every chance that a loan move could be beneficial for all parties.
