This year’s Ballon d’Or is set to take place this evening (October 17th) at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris.

The venue will be packed with the crème de la crème of world football, including Cristiano Ronaldo, Erling Haaland, Sam Kerr and Alexia Putellas.

As always, the 20-player nominee list is packed with world class talent. GiveMeSport Women predicts where each player will finish, and who will be crowned the winner of the 2022 Ballon d’Or Féminin.

Renard captained Lyon to yet another Division 1 Féminine title, before helping her team regain their Champions League crown from Barcelona.

Renowned for her defensive prowess, Renard also contributed goals last season, scoring a career-high of 15 in all competitions.

The 32-year-old then led France to the semi-finals at Euro 2022, where they lost to Germany.

4) Lena Oberdorf – Wolfsburg

There is no doubt that Oberdorf is one of the best young footballers in the world.

The 20-year-old was part of the Wolfsburg side which won the Frauen-Bundesliga and DFB Pokal Frauen, but it was her performances for Germany at Euro 2022 which really caught the eye.

Oberdorf was named Euro 2022 Young Player of the Tournament and was a finalist in UEFA Women's Player of the Year.

Kerr earned her second successive Golden Boot in the Women’s Super League, firing Chelsea to their third consecutive league title.

Her 29 goals in 31 club appearances last season resulted in an array of personal accolades, including WSL Player of the Season, FWA Footballer of the Year, PFA Players' Player of the Year and PFA Fans' Player of the Year.

The 29-year-old may narrowly miss out on the Ballon d’Or Féminin, however.

2) Beth Mead – Arsenal

After scoring an impressive six goals during England’s winning run at Euro 2022, Mead was named the tournament’s top scorer and best player.

The 27-year-old also had a brilliant season for Arsenal, hitting the back of the net 11 times in the WSL, behind only Miedema and Kerr. She also finished with eight assists, the joint highest in the league alongside Ella Toone.

Mead subsequently rose to the top of the WSL’s all-time assists chart, with 36 to her name.

1) Alexia Putellas – Barcelona

She may currently be recovering from an ACL injury, but Putellas is still the best female footballer around.

Last season, the 28-year-old scored 18 goals and set up 15 more in the Primera División, a remarkable tally from midfield.

She scored 34 goals in all competitions as she inspired Barcelona to a domestic treble, and also became Spain’s most capped player with 100 appearances. Putellas is certainly the fans' favourite to win the Ballon d’Or Féminin for a second year in a row.
