Everton's Dominic Calvert-Lewin will be "desperate" to win back his place in the starting line-up, according to journalist Pete O'Rourke.

The £60,000 per-week star made his first outing of the season in the defeat to Manchester United last weekend and O'Rourke now reckons the striker will be targeting a regular spot in Frank Lampard's XI.

What's the latest news involving Calvert-Lewin?

Calvert-Lewin scored some key goals towards the end of last season, notably the winner against Crystal Palace, which secured Everton's Premier League status back in May.

But his injury woes continued when he suffered a knee problem in training ahead of the new campaign, which kept him out of action for the first nine games.

However, the England international finally made his comeback in the game with the Red Devils, replacing Idrissa Gueye for the final 14 minutes.

Everton are back in action with another tough test at Tottenham on Sunday and O'Rourke reckons that he'll be eager to get the nod from Lampard.

What did O'Rourke say about Calvert-Lewin?

He told GIVEMESPORT: "He got a few minutes against Manchester United in what was his first appearance of the season.

"So, he'll be desperate I'm sure to be back in that starting line-up as well because he's had so many injury problems over the last couple of seasons."

Will Calvert-Lewin start against Tottenham?

Neal Maupay has been leading the line for Everton in Calvert-Lewin's absence, but the Frenchman has scored just once since his summer switch from Brighton, meaning his place in the team is far from certain.

Anthony Gordon is also suspended for the game in north London, which not only forces Lampard into making at least one change, but also increases Calvert-Lewin's chances of starting.

There's also the possibility that Lampard could opt to move Maupay out wide or even start with two strikers.

But the Everton manager revealed on Thursday that Calvert-Lewin is not taking a full part in training, which suggests that he's not yet ready to be starting.

Therefore, a game at Tottenham might not be the ideal time for Lampard to throw him in, especially with the Toffees playing Newcastle four days later and then Crystal Palace next weekend.
