Miles Jacobson, Football Manager’s director, has warned players that fans are going to play a huge role in whether or not you get the sack in FM23!

The latest instalment in the long-running management simulation has officially released worldwide.

FM23 has a huge number of new features, with the headline-grabbing addition being that of the UEFA licencing, meaning there are faithful recreations of the Champions League, the Europa League, the Conference League, and the Super Cup.

But one perhaps underrated new feature is that of fan confidence.

SI describe the feature as follows: “Become closer to the fans than ever before with our new Supporter Confidence system. Get to grips with their expectations on and off the pitch to ensure a bright, long-term future in the dugout.”

Can the fans get you sacked on FM23?

We at GiveMeSport sat down with Miles to talk about all things Football Manager and we asked whether or not the supporter confidence matrix can directly lead to you getting your P45 and heading to the job centre.

While the fans can’t solely get you sacked – it will always be the board’s decision – Miles has warned players that they need to keep the supporters onside if they are going to be successful.

SI have gone to great lengths this year to ensure that fanbases are accurately represented, so clubs lower down the leagues may have more hardcore supporters, while those at the top of the Premier League will have more fair-weather supporters.

Asked about whether fans can hound you out, Jacobson exclusively said: “Well, the board still have to make the decision but the fans putting enough pressure on the board, then yes, they play a part in it. It's not entirely down to the supporters because it never would be in real life either.

“A lot of it will depend on how your board are made up, the personalities of the people on the board, to try and make it as accurate as possible. Some club owners are trigger-happy without the need for any supporters to be upset, sometimes they upset the supporters when they do sack people.

“At other clubs, it's the other way round. It will be different with every club because every club has their own supporter make-up as well. So those hardcore fans can be the best thing for you. They can also be the worst thing for you.”
