Wolverhampton Wanderers star Matheus Nunes is 'where he wants to be' and the early season struggles at Molineux will not have a negative impact on his career, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The West Midlands outfit spent more than £120million during the summer transfer window, with Nunes among the fresh recruits.

Nunes joined Wolves in a deal worth up to £42.2million from Portuguese giants Sporting in August, making him the new club-record signing.

Having penned a £85,000-per-week contract which will keep him at Molineux until the summer of 2027, the central midfielder was hoping to make an instant impression.

But it has been a difficult start to the season for Wolves and Bruno Lage, who brought Nunes to the Premier League for the first time in his career, was sacked earlier this month.

The 24-year-old has been named in the starting line-up for every fixture since his arrival, while he grabbed a valuable assist in the win over Southampton.

But, despite his best efforts, Wolves still find themselves at the wrong end of the table and without a permanent replacement for Lage in the dugout.

What has Dean Jones said about Nunes?

Jones does not believe that Nunes is regretting making the move to Wolves despite the club's early season results and a managerial sacking.

The transfer insider feels the former Estoril star has performed impressively in difficult circumstances and has already shown he has a big future ahead of him.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: "I don’t think this move is going to do him any harm.

"He's landed in the Premier League, where he wants to be. He has started well and if things don’t go to plan with Wolves, his individual showings will still ensure his career has a big projection."

Has Nunes been attracting interest from rival clubs?

According to Portuguese media outlet UOL, via the Independent, Liverpool will turn their attentions towards trying to sign Nunes if they fail to land Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham.

It comes after Wolves had to battle for the former Sporting man's signature in the summer as Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain were also among his suitors.

West Ham United boss David Moyes revealed the Hammers lodged a bid for Nunes as well, only for the target to make it clear that he was not interested in a move to the capital.

The nine-cap Portugal international will be hoping to bag a place on the flight to the World Cup, which gets underway next month, and his performances in Qatar could lead to clubs attempting to test Wolves' resolve.
