Aston Villa owners Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens will be ‘concerned’ about the form of the club under Steven Gerrard, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The Liverpool legend was handed more than £60 million to bolster his squad in the summer transfer window but they find themselves scrapping at the foot of the table.

What is the latest from Villa?

Gerrard has now gone three games without a win in the Premier League after suffering a 2-0 defeat to Chelsea in the West Midlands on Sunday afternoon.

It follows draws with Leeds United and Nottingham Forest, with Villa now perched just one point above the relegation zone after 10 matches.

After full-time this weekend, Matt Law of The Telegraph emphasised that the pressure was building on Gerrard in the dugout.

During their draw away to Forest, there were chants from the visiting fans calling for their manager to be sacked, although Roy Keane later expressed his desire to see Gerrard given time.

What has O’Rourke said on Gerrard?

O’Rourke believes the club's owners will be concerned with their current form and frustrations from supporters.

The journalist adds that they will likely be all the more disappointed given the money invested in Gerrard’s vision.

When asked whether Sawiris and Edens will be worried about the club’s form, O’Rourke told GIVEMESPORT: “I think so. I think the owners will be slightly concerned over what's going on at Villa right now. Two of their last three games were really winnable games that they weren't able to get over the line, so the fans are getting a bit frustrated and unhappy with how things are going. They’re not scoring enough goals and not picking up enough points. You’ve got to remember, these owners did put a lot of faith in Steven Gerrard when they did bring him down from Rangers. They thought he was going to be the man to take them forward. But it's been a really disappointing start to the season.”

Have Villa got replacements lined up?

Gerrard has recently insisted in an interview with Sky Sports that he needs more time to turn things around.

However, whether he gets that time or not remains to be seen.

According to Football Insider, Edens and Sawiris have sounded out the possibility of replacing Gerrard with either Mauricio Pochettino or Unai Emery.

It is understood that the former Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain boss would be open to taking on the Villa Park project.
