Everton are in a sticky situation as Anthony Gordon will not sign a new Goodison Park contract ahead of January due to wanting to assess his options, according to journalist Paul Brown.

The Toffees spent more than £70million during the summer transfer window, but boss Frank Lampard has now turned his attentions towards keeping one of his star men on Merseyside.

What's the latest news involving Gordon?

According to The Sun, Everton's contract talks with Gordon have stalled even though the club are willing to considerably increase his wages.

The report suggests the nine-cap England under-21 international's representatives want the Toffees' proposal to reflect their £60million valuation and are seeking a pay package of £100,000-per-week.

It is understood that Everton may insert a £75million release clause into any new contract if they are able to reach an agreement with Gordon.

The winger's current Goodison Park deal - which is worth £10,000-per-week - has just shy of three years remaining, but he has gained the attention of Premier League rivals in recent months.

Chelsea were prepared to spend £60million to acquire Gordon's services, while Tottenham Hotspur submitted a £100million offer which also involved Richarlison, but he remained with Lampard's charges.

What has Paul Brown said about Gordon?

Brown has major doubts over whether Gordon will commit his long-term future to Everton by penning a new contract.

The journalist believes the 21-year-old wants to see whether any suitors are willing to head to the negotiating table when the transfer window reopens at the turn of the year.

Brown told GIVEMESPORT: "I don't think you're going to be seeing Anthony Gordon signing a new contract with Everton over the next few weeks, whatever wages they offer him.

"It looks to me like he's going to look around and see what happens in the next window before deciding his future, which isn't an ideal situation for Everton, but it hasn't really seemed to have affected him on the pitch."

Should tying Gordon down to a new contract be a priority for Everton?

Gordon enjoyed a breakthrough season in 2021/22, chalking up seven goal contributions, but he has built on that form.

The wide-man found the back of the net in draws with Brentford and Leeds United in August, while he has also averaged two shots per game since the campaign got underway.

Although Lampard has admitted he has concerns over Gordon's 'dedication to training', there is no doubt that Everton should do all they can to keep him on board and fend off interest.

However, that could change if an admirer is willing to meet the Toffees' financial demands and it becomes abundantly clear that the academy graduate, who has made more than 60 appearances at senior level, is not interested in agreeing fresh terms.
