Tottenham Hotspur ace Pape Matar Sarr could see the World Cup as 'the perfect opportunity' to show Antonio Conte what he can produce at Hotspur Way, according to journalist Paul Brown.

Spurs have enjoyed their best-ever start to a Premier League campaign, but Sarr has not played a role in the north Londoners' fine run of form.

What's the latest news involving Sarr?

Sarr made the move to Tottenham while Nuno Espirito Santo was at the helm, joining from Metz last year before returning to the French side on loan for the remainder of the 2021/22 campaign.

The central midfielder, who cost close to £15million, returned to the capital during the summer and found a new man in the hot seat after Conte was appointed as Spurs' head coach last November.

Although Sarr is still waiting to make his Tottenham debut despite being named on the bench on numerous occasions this season, he has been offered a glimmer of hope that an opportunity is just around the corner.

That is because, ahead of the 2-0 win over Everton last weekend, Conte revealed he sees the 20-year-old as a 'really important' prospect.

Sarr is in line to head to the World Cup with Senegal next month after taking his tally up to 10 caps by featuring in clashes with Bolivia and Iran last month.

What has Paul Brown said about Sarr?

Brown believes Sarr could work his way into Conte's Tottenham plans by performing well at the upcoming World Cup in Qatar.

However, the journalist feels the Italian will not admit to making an error by failing to offer the Senegalese game-time if he impresses on the international stage.

Brown told GIVEMESPORT: "You would think that a World Cup would be the perfect opportunity for him to show Conte what he's made of.

"But I genuinely don't think that Conte is someone who's going to watch that tournament and decide 'I made a big mistake. I need to get this guy or that guy in my team'. He's never really done that in his managerial career before."

Why has Sarr been overlooked by Conte?

Since Rodrigo Bentancur completed a £21.5million move from Juventus earlier this year, he has formed a formidable central midfield partnership with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

They have played alongside each other regularly and Bentancur provided an assist for Hojbjerg during the victory over Everton on Saturday.

Yves Bissouma also arrived in the capital for up to £35million from Brighton & Hove Albion in June, sending Sarr further down the pecking order.

Oliver Skipp is another option for Conte in the middle of the park, so Sarr appears to have his work cut out at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
