Leeds United are currently ‘drawing up’ a list of targets ahead of the January transfer window, with a new striker likely to be high on the agenda, according to journalist Dean Jones.

Director of football Victor Orta helped negotiate deals for seven new signings in the summer and is set to be busy again at the turn of the year.

What strikers have Leeds been linked with?

This summer saw the Whites bring in Wilfried Gnonto from FC Zurich, with the 18-year-old penning a five-year deal at Elland Road.

But the teenager was not their only target throughout the summer transfer window.

Leeds were reported to have made a late attempt to sign Ben Brereton Diaz from Blackburn Rovers on deadline day.

The Whites have not given up on the Chile international either, according to MailOnline, and are eyeing a move ahead of his contract expiring in the summer.

Jesse Marsch and co were also among the pack chasing PSV Eindhoven attacker Cody Gakpo, however, their hopes of landing the Dutchman appear to be vanishing.

Jones understands that the club are in the midst of drawing up a list of targets for the January transfer window.

The journalist adds that it is the likes of Orta, not Marsch, who should be shouldering the pressure at the moment having failed to adequately strengthen the squad.

When asked about Leeds’ striker plans, Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “I'm told they are drawing up names at the moment. I think that's the main pressure right now. It shouldn't be on Jesse Marsch, it should be on the club helping him find a solution to getting them the goals they need.”

Do Leeds need a new striker?

Patrick Bamford has been an outstanding servant for Leeds, scoring 45 goals in 127 appearances since his arrival.

But he has an awful injury record. Last season saw the 29-year-old miss 30 matches with various ailments while he has already had to sit out six this term.

Gnonto does not appear to be trusted with first-team responsibilities just yet either and has been made to settle for appearances in the reserve squad.

It is clear that a specialist striker, capable of stepping in when needed, is of high importance ahead of January.
