Leeds United want Jack Harrison to sign a new contract "as soon as possible", according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The 25-year-old winger has less than two years remaining on his existing deal and was the subject of interest from Newcastle United during the summer.

What is the latest news involving Harrison?

Earlier this month, Football Insider reported that Leeds are ready to double Harrison's wages in a bid to keep him at Elland Road.

The Englishman was wanted by Newcastle in the last transfer window, with it being believed that the Tyneside club made two bids for him.

Harrison has been a key player for Leeds in the Premier League, scoring eight goals last season to help keep his side in the top flight.

The campaign prior, the £60,000-a-week star recorded the same tally, as well as eight assists.

What has Jones said about Leeds and Harrison?

Jones has told GIVEMESPORT that Leeds are indeed trying to get Harrison to sign a new contract.

Speaking to GMS, the journalist said: "Obviously, Leeds do have some intent around this and want to persuade him to put pen to paper as soon as possible."

How would Leeds fans react to losing Harrison?

You suspect Leeds supporters and manager Jesse Marsch will be extremely disappointed if the club cannot keep hold of Harrison.

They have already watched Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips depart Elland Road. To lose another key player next summer, or possibly even in January, would be a hard pill to swallow.

Still, there is a long way to go before that happens. Harrison's contract is not up until 2024, so Leeds do not actually have to sell him in either of the next two transfer windows.

There is also, of course, a chance that the former Manchester City player ends up putting pen to paper on a new deal, which would come as a massive boost to the club.

Ultimately, it is probably not time for Marsch and Leeds fans to panic. However, it is a situation that the Yorkshire club need to address as soon as possible, especially with Newcastle in the background.

From Harrison's perspective, he does not seem desperate to leave Elland Road, so there is reason for his current employers to be optimistic. But that could easily change if Newcastle return for him and offer a sizeable salary, so Leeds better get a move on.
