Leeds United ‘have to’ consider signing a new striker in January to take the pressure off Patrick Bamford at Elland Road, with the responsibility being shouldered by the marksman currently ‘not okay’, according to journalist Dean Jones.

Jesse Marsch splashed more than £90 million on new signings in the summer transfer window but may soon invest further at the turn of the year.

What is the latest from Leeds?

The Whites fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat to league leaders Arsenal on Sunday afternoon, with Bukayo Saka scoring the only goal of the game in West Yorkshire.

Leeds threatened throughout, however, and could have taken all three points on another day.

Bamford came off the bench at the start of the second half to replace the ineffective Rodrigo but went on to miss a penalty and have a goal ruled out for a foul in the build-up.

Ahead of the match, Marsch threw his support behind the £10 million man, claiming he was ‘confident’ Bamford would start firing again soon.

The American added that he would only become concerned if the 29-year-old was not getting involved in the game and fashioning chances.

Having scored 45 times in 127 games for Leeds, it is easy to see why Marsch is retaining faith in Bamford moving forward.

What has Jones said on the situation?

Jones believes that the level of responsibility for goals being shouldered by Bamford is currently unfair.

The journalist adds that, as a result, the club need to consider bringing in another striker to carry some of the burden.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “Bamford has so much pressure on him to score and, if he doesn't, they don't. It's really not okay. They're going to have to consider investing in the January market in another goalscorer.”

Who could Leeds sign in January?

Having been linked with Ben Brereton Diaz in the summer, the club have reportedly not given up on signing the Blackburn Rovers star in January.

Leeds were also understood to have pushed hard to sign PSV Eindhoven ace Cody Gakpo but a deal now seems like a long shot.

Southampton forward Che Adams emerged as another potential target in the summer and could well attract their interest again at the turn of the year.
