GK: Yann Sommer (Switzerland)

Sommer was superb for Switzerland at Euro 2020 as they reached the quarter-finals.

But he suffered an ankle injury that forced him off in Borussia Monchengladbach's match against Darmstadt on Tuesday evening. The German club have declared he will be out 'until further notice'.

It will be a big blow for Switzerland should he not be available.

RB: Reece James (England)

James has been ruled out for up to eight weeks after sustaining an injury in Chelsea's match against AC Milan last week.

He will almost certainly miss the start of the tournament but Gareth Southgate could choose to select him anyway in the hope he will feature in the later rounds.

CB: Ronald Araujo (Uruguay)

Araujo underwent thigh surgery in September and is not expected to play for Barcelona until after the World Cup. He will be a big miss for Uruguay should he fail to recover in time.

CB: Kyle Walker (England)

Walker underwent groin surgery at the start of October. He is one of the first names on the team sheet for England should he be available.

LB: Ricardo Pereira (Portugal)

Pereira has had some awful injury luck in recent years. He ruptured his Achilles in August and will return to action in 2023.

CDM: N'Golo Kante (France)

Kante will not be part of France's World Cup squad after having an operation on a hamstring injury earlier this week. A huge blow for France, who are looking to retain their title.

CM: Arthur Melo (Brazil)

Arthur is out until 2023 after undergoing surgery on a thigh injury.

CM: Georginio Wijnaldum (Netherlands)

Wijnaldum has been influential for Netherlands over the past few years. He has played 86 times for his country, scoring 26 goals. He will play no part in Qatar after breaking his leg in August.

CAM: Paulo Dybala (Argentina)

Dybala suffered a freak thigh injury while taking a penalty earlier this month, an injury which could prevent him from playing for Argentina in Qatar.

“I say bad, but I think very, very bad. I am not a doctor, but in my experience, and speaking to Paulo, it’s unlikely we’ll see him this year,” Jose Mourinho told DAZN about Dybala's injury, per Football Italia.

CF: Marco Reus (Germany)

Reus has had awful luck with injuries in the past, which has seem him miss out on major tournaments for Germany in the past.

It was feared he could miss the Qatar World Cup after being stretchered off with an ankle injury earlier this month.

He faces a race against time to be fit for the upcoming tournament.

CF: Diogo Jota (Portugal)

Jota was stretchered off in Liverpool's match against Manchester City with a calf injury on the weekend. He has been ruled out of the World Cup in what is a blow for Portugal's chances.

Among the other players to be doubtful for the 2022 World Cup include Kalvin Phillips (England) and Raul Jimenez (Mexico), while Jesus Corona (Mexico), Alexis Saelemaekers (Belgium) and Pedro Neto (Portugal) have all been ruled out.
