How expensive was Karim Benzema's Ballon d'Or watch?

Per Marca, Benzema turned up to the ceremony wearing a Richard Mille RM 65-01 - a watch that is reportedly considered to be the brand's most complicated.

It took five years of testing to bring the watch to market, according to GQ, as it ‘incorporates a high-frequency balance that is capable of timing down to one 10th of a second with the utmost precision’.

Sounds pretty fancy, doesn’t it?

"The culmination of some five years of development, this automatic split-seconds chronograph is the most complex timepiece ever to leave the Richard Mille workshops," the brand says about the watch, per Marca.

"This model fully embodies the brand's technical approach thanks to the combination of several additional functions, a very specific architecture and an extremely high-end aesthetic.

"All in all, a fabulous challenge of mechanical watchmaking that called for patience, technicity and utter perseverance."

You won’t be surprised to hear that Benzema’s watch doesn’t come cheap. You need extremely deep pockets if you want to buy one.

The report adds that the watch is valued at an eye-watering €500,000.

Proof that you can afford to wear just about anything if you’re a Ballon d’Or winner.

How expensive was Robert Lewandowski's Ballon d'Or watch?

On the other hand - quite literally - Lewandowski arrived at the Ballon d’Or ceremony wearing a Casio watch valued at just €60.

What a bargain.

We would give Lewandowski a shoutout for keeping it real; however, Marca add that the Pole previously had a Patek Philippe watch worth €70,000 stolen from outside Barcelona’s training facilities in August.

That’s still relatively cheap compared to Benzema’s pricey Ballon d’Or watch, to be fair.
