Manchester United could 'cut their losses' and cash-in on Old Trafford outcast Donny van de Beek when the transfer window reopens in January, according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth.

The central midfielder only returned to the Red Devils in the summer, having spent the second half of last season on loan with Everton, but he has failed to secure regular game-time.

What's the latest news involving van de Beek?

It seems a move away from Manchester United could be on the cards as, according to 90min, van de Beek has been granted permission to move onto pastures new once the transfer window reopens at the turn of the year.

The report suggests a number of Premier League clubs, along with PSV Eindhoven and former employers Ajax, hold an interest and the 19-cap Netherlands international is likely to leave on loan.

Serie A giants Inter Milan is reportedly another potential destination for van de Beek and transfer insider Dean Jones has previously told GIVEMESPORT that 'a queue of clubs' will be looking to strike a deal in January.

Although it seems that the 25-year-old is currently surplus to requirements, Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag has insisted that van de Beek's 'chances will come' when he is fully fit.

Van de Beek’s £120,000-per-week contract is not due to expire until the summer of 2025, while Manchester United have the option of extending his stay by another 12 months.

What has Dharmesh Sheth said about van de Beek?

Sheth believes Manchester United could look to cash-in on van de Beek during the upcoming transfer window.

The Sky Sports reporter also feels the loan switch to Everton did not pay off and the Red Devils would have preferred him to make a temporary switch abroad.

When asked whether a winter exit could be on the cards, Sheth told GIVEMESPORT: "You never know. Come January, there's potential that United might think they should cut their losses and see if there's a club who would be willing to pay money for Donny van de Beek.

"It was interesting to note that in the January transfer window - when van de Beek went to Everton - I think United's preference would probably have been for him to have gone to a European club, where the play and the build-up play is slightly slower and more suited to van de Beek's style of play.

"He could have got a lot more games had he gone abroad, maybe performed well, come back to United and maintained a good value.

"But, instead, he went to Everton. Effectively, what has happened to him at United happened to him at Everton because it probably wasn't the right choice."

Should Manchester United sell van de Beek in January?

Van de Beek joined Manchester United in a deal worth up to £40million from Ajax two years ago, but it is clear that the move has not paid off.

The Dutchman has only chalked up two goals and as many assists in 53 appearances, which is a woeful amount considering how productive he was in the final third of the pitch for his previous employers.

Van de Beek has barely been seen since the season got underway, having enjoyed 19 minutes of action and not been on the pitch since August due to an injury.

It would be best for all parties if the £18million-rated star, who has become a somewhat forgotten figure, moved onto a new challenge at the turn of the year.
