Darts is all about technique.

Players will often spend time trying to perfect the speed and accuracy of their shots in order to rack up the most amount of points.

The game often flows quickly with both players stepping up and unleashing their darts before handing the spotlight back to their opponent.

For example, Ricky Evans earned the nickname of Rapid Ricky when he became the fastest man to ever hit a 180. He delivered the highest possible score with three darts in just 2.16 seconds. That’s even faster than it would take a Tesla Model 3 to get to 60MPH.

Despite losing the game itself, Evans’ stunning performance will go down in history due to his speed really catching the eye.

Though, no one seems to have told this to Terry Down, who may go down as the man with the slowest darts throw of all time.

Who is the world's slowest darts player?

The most famous instance of this is when Down took on Jocky Wilson at the 1985 BDO Blackthorn Masters. A YouTube clip focusing on the technique of Down shows just how painfully slow he could be.

In fact, by the time his third dart hit the board, a mad 34 seconds had passed. For context, the aforementioned Rapid Ricky Evans could’ve completed 15.7 separate scores of 180 given his record-breaking 2.16 time.

The slow and steady approach used by Down is definitely unorthodox, but clearly gets under the skin of his opponents.

However, it's safe to say it isn't a technique that a lot of fans approved of, with the comments section on the YouTube video providing some fantastic reaction.

In this particular case, Jocky Wilson became so bored by Down’s antics that he even requested a chair from the crowd to sit on in between turns.

It’s understandable that Wilson would be frustrated by the style of his opponent, but it seemed to work. Down was able to defeat a puzzled Wilson and earn the hearts of the public despite not having too much success during his darts career as a whole.
