Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Ruben Neves would have his head turned if Barcelona were to make a transfer approach in the future, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The West Midlands outfit are languishing towards the foot of the Premier League table and are running the risk of losing one of their star men.

What is the latest on Neves?

According to Spanish outlet SPORT, Barcelona are at a ‘very advanced’ stage in their pursuit of Neves ahead of the January transfer window opening.

The report goes on to suggest that a fee as large as £44 million could be splashed by the La Liga giants despite the fact the 25-year-old will have just 18 months left on £58,000 per-week contract at the turn of the year.

Wolves were handed another blow when Neves himself talked up the possibility of completing a switch to the Camp Nou.

Speaking to Spanish broadcaster Canal 11, the Portugal international described being linked with Barcelona as a ‘privelege’.

He went on to ask ‘who wouldn’t want to play for Barcelona?’ But accepted that he was determined to continue his good work at Molineus.

What has O’Rourke said on his future?

O’Rourke believes it is inevitable that Neves will have had his head turned if Barcelona have made an approach.

The journalist adds that any player would at least consider the prospect of making the move.

O’Rourke told GIVEMESPORT: "I think if you’ve got Barcelona courting your services, I'm sure it would turn anybody's head. We all know Barcelona have had major financial problems over the last couple of years as well, but they are going well in La Liga and they are trying to rebuild.”

Can Wolves hold on to Neves?

There is going to need to be a very big and very quick improvement if they want to hold on to their star man for the long term.

Only Nottingham Forest sit below Wolves in the table, with the club scoring a dismal five goals in eight matches.

With such a record, it is easy to see why Neves would have his head turned by the glittering squad on offer at Barcelona.

Wolves may well be better served turning their attentions to ensuring they command as large a fee as possible for their midfield maestro, which may mean cashing in during the January transfer window.
