Manchester United have been tipped to cast their eye over Rennes winger Kamaldeen Sulemana at this year’s World Cup by The Guardian’s Ed Aarons.

The highly-rated 20-year-old is likely to be one of Ghana’s key players when the showpiece event kicks off next month, and he may well be watched by a host of top teams from across the continent.

What is the latest news involving Sulemana?

Back in May 2021, the Daily Mail reported that United, Liverpool and Ajax were in the race to secure Sulemana’s signature from Danish outfit FC Nordsjælland.

It’s claimed that the trio of European heavyweights sent scouts over to run the rule over the pacey attacker, yet it was Ligue 1 side Rennes who eventually jumped to the front of the queue.

The French club ended up splashing out €15 million (£13m) upfront with a further €5m (£2m) to follow in potential add-ons to prise Sulemana away from Nordsjælland.

And the youngster revealed his reasons behind choosing Rennes over his more esteemed suitors upon his unveiling at the Roazhon Park.

“I chose here based on my playing time and I think there’s a better chance of me playing more here than any other place, and I’ll play against great teams here as well,” said Sulemana.

What has Aarons said about Sulemana?

When asked if he believes if United will be one of the sides monitoring Sulemana’s progress in Qatar, Aarons told GiveMeSport that he ‘really’ does.

He said: “I really do actually, this guy's very exciting. He was in Denmark until this season, and he moved to Rennes in the summer in a Danish record for the league for 20 million. And in France he’s doing very well as well, he’s a very exciting winger.”

Would Sulemana be a good signing for Man Utd?

Sulemana honed his skills with Nordsjælland and left the club after registering 14 goals and eight assists in 43 appearances across all competitions for them.

During his time with Rennes, the versatile wide man has racked up a respectable 10 goal contributions in 40 outings while also putting up some impressive underlying numbers.

As per FBref, Sulemana has ranked in the 99th percentile for completed dribbles, 97th percentile for progressive passes received, 96th for total shots, and 93rd for touches in the attacking penalty area compared to his positional peers over the last year.

If Sulemana can perform to the best of his ability at the World Cup, then that might be a significant indicator to United that he is ready to take the next step in his promising career.
