Tottenham Hotspur ace Pape Matar Sarr is 'ready' to break into Antonio Conte's plans, but it is 'a shame' that his Hotspur Way career has not gone to plan, according to The Guardian journalist Ed Aarons.

Spurs boss Conte, who is approaching a year in the hot seat, has continuously overlooked the Senegalese talent since the season got underway.

What's the latest news involving Sarr?

Sarr is still waiting to make his Tottenham debut despite being named on the bench on numerous occasions since the campaign got underway.

The central midfielder returned to north London during the summer, having spent last term on loan with Metz.

After forking out close to £15million to sign Sarr from the French club last year, Spurs allowed him to remain in familiar surroundings for another season to continue his development.

But it seems the 20-year-old, who made 34 appearances and racked up four goal contributions during his loan spell, could be in line to make his debut in the not-too-distant future.

That is because, earlier this month, Conte revealed he sees Sarr as a 'really important' prospect.

What has Ed Aarons said about Sarr?

Aarons believes Sarr has a bright future ahead of him and, as a result, is frustrated that opportunities have not been coming his way.

The journalist feels the midfielder finds himself down the pecking order at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but is ready to stake a claim for a regular starting spot.

Aarons told GIVEMESPORT: "He's a very exciting player in terms of the progression he's made at such a young age.

"It's a shame that Tottenham haven't given him a chance because he's probably ready, I think. He's been on the bench a few times this season, but he is a holding midfielder, which they have plenty of.

"He dictates the play and that is the sort of role for someone who is a bit older, normally."

Will Sarr be heading to the World Cup?

Sarr helped Senegal to win the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year and appears to be in line to head to Qatar for the World Cup, which gets underway next month.

The Tottenham man took his tally up to 10 caps by featuring in clashes with Bolivia and Iran last month, so he is on course to book his place on the flight despite a lack of game-time at club level.

Sarr will be looking to make an impact in Group A, where Senegal are set to take on hosts Qatar, Ecuador and the Netherlands.

Journalist Paul Brown has previously told GIVEMESPORT that the World Cup may be 'the perfect opportunity' for Sarr to catch Conte's eye.
