Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira may have Ismail Jakobs 'on his radar' ahead of potentially making a move to lure the Monaco star to Selhurst Park, according to The Guardian journalist Ed Aarons.

Having spent more than £30million during the summer transfer window, the Eagles will be presented with another opportunity to strengthen their squad at the turn of the year.

What's the latest news involving Jakobs?

Jakobs has been a regular feature for Monaco this season, with him making 14 appearances in all competitions.

The left-back, who has now enjoyed 100 senior outings at club level, is looking to secure a spot in Senegal's squad for the upcoming World Cup.

Jakobs won his first two caps during the international break last month and played the full 90 minutes against Iran, so he appears to have made a case for himself bagging a place on the flight to Qatar.

It is understood that West Ham United offered the 23-year-old a route into the Premier League during the summer, with the east Londoners making an enquiry.

However, Monaco were not in an immediate rush to cash-in as Jakobs' £14,000-per-week is not due to expire until the summer of 2026.

What has Ed Aarons said about Jakobs?

Aarons believes Palace need to offer first choice left-back Tyrick Mitchell stiff competition and could head to the negotiating table during the January transfer window.

The journalist feels Vieira may be keeping an eye on Jakobs and his performances at the World Cup, which gets underway next month.

Aarons told GIVEMESPORT: "Really top class left-backs are a bit of a premium, but I think Crystal Palace could do with somebody to give a bit of competition to Mitchell.

"Maybe he's on their radar because the Senegalese link with Crystal Palace is quite strong."

How does Jakobs compare to Mitchell?

Mitchell has made the left-back position his own since Vieira was appointed as Palace's manager last year, making 53 appearances.

The academy product's form also allowed him to break into England's squad earlier this year and he now has two caps to his name.

Although statistics show that Mitchell has averaged more assists, tackles, blocks and interceptions than Jakobs during the early stages of the season, it is clear that the Monaco man would be a capable understudy.

Jakobs boasts a better short pass completion ratio than Mitchell since the campaign got underway, so he is comfortable in possession and that will catch Vieira's eye.
