Everton star James Garner deserves more of a chance to impress Frank Lampard, according to journalist Paul Brown.

The 21-year-old arrived at Goodison Park this summer in hope of more regular opportunities, but he's so far been restricted to a substitute role.

What's the latest news involving Garner?

Despite spending 18 months on loan at Nottingham Forest, Garner made the switch to Everton in a £15m deal from Manchester United in the recent summer transfer window.

Garner helped Forest end their long wait for Premier League football but didn't opt to sign permanently at the City Ground, instead linking up with Lampard.

Following his arrival, the youngster said: "I'm made up to sign for Everton. It's a huge step in my career and I want to help the team get better while progressing as a player. I think Everton is the perfect place to do that. I can't wait to get started."

However, he's still waiting to make his first Premier League start, although he has come off the bench in each of the Toffees' last five games, which suggests that a first start might not be far away.

What did Brown say about Garner?

He told GIVEMESPORT: "We've seen glimpses of Garner coming on, I'm still not entirely sure what role he's going to play because we haven't seen him on the pitch enough, but I would like to see him get a chance to at some point."

When could Garner make his first start?

Everton have suffered just three defeats in their last 11 Premier League games, two of which came against teams in the top six, which represents a decent run of form.

As a result, Lampard isn't likely to make too many changes to his starting XI, which makes things tough to see when Garner might finally get the nod.

Not only that, but he's competing against Amadou Onana, a big-money signing and Idrissa Gueye, one of the most experienced players in the team.

Regardless, the Carabao Cup tie against Bournemouth next week should be the time for Lampard to unleash him from the start, especially with a second and more important trip to the Vitality Stadium coming four days later in Everton's final fixture before the World Cup.
