Arsenal star Bukayo Saka suffered an 'impact' problem during the win over Nottingham Forest at the Emirates Stadium and is not expected to be a long-term absentee, according to injury news journalist Ben Dinnery.

The north Londoners returned to the top of the Premier League thanks to sealing a 5-0 victory over Steve Cooper's side on Sunday, but the three points came at a cost for Gunners boss Mikel Arteta.

What's the latest news involving Saka?

Having grabbed an early assist, with his cross being headed home by Gabriel Martinelli, Saka was forced off just 27 minutes into Arsenal's thumping of Nottingham Forest.

The winger went down following a challenge from Renan Lodi, who joined the Gunners' visitors from La Liga giants Atletico Madrid just days before the summer transfer deadline, and was substituted after initially attempting to continue.

Arteta has claimed that Saka was 'kicked a few times' and he remains hopeful that the talisman will not miss the World Cup.

The 20-cap England international will be hoping the injury is not going to end his hopes of bagging a place in the Three Lions' squad heading to Qatar.

Gareth Southgate's side will get their World Cup campaign underway on November 21, when they take on Iran in Group B, so Saka is in a race against time.

What has Ben Dinnery said about Saka?

Dinnery understands that Saka suffered an impact injury after getting caught on the ankle during the win against Nottingham Forest.

The journalist believes the 21-year-old's attempt to play on, despite being in discomfort, is a positive sign for Arsenal and England.

Dinnery told GIVEMESPORT: "Typically, injuries can evolve over the first 24-48 hours. What we do know is it's an impact injury. He took a couple of kicks early in the game on the ankle and lower leg.

"The fact that he was able to continue in a little bit of discomfort before being replaced suggests that, hopefully, it isn't too serious and it is just more of a heavy knock or an impact injury."

How has Saka performed so far this season?

Saka has been in fantastic form during the early stages of the campaign, racking up five goals and as many assists in 17 appearances.

He has been Arsenal's fourth best performer in the Premier League, with Gabriel Jesus, Martinelli and Martin Odegaard being the only team-mates to boast a better average match rating.

Statistics show that Saka gets 2.3 shots away every top flight outing, while he also has an 83 per cent pass accuracy, so Arteta will want the wide-man to return to action as soon as possible.
