Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy ‘would turn back’ to Mauricio Pochettino if the club needed to replace Antonio Conte in the near future, according to journalist Dean Jones.

Conte remains in charge at Hotspur Way but doubts over his future could cause those in charge in north London to start looking elsewhere.

What is the latest on Pochettino?

Aston Villa had made the Argentinian their top choice to replace Steven Gerrard as their manager after sacking the Liverpool legend.

However, the West Midlands outfit were ultimately rejected, leaving them to turn to Villarreal boss Unai Emery instead.

Pochettino remains out of work after being sacked by Paris Saint-Germain in the summer and is reportedly eager to return to the Premier League in the future.

Conte was only appointed as Tottenham manager in November 2021 but, having only penned a two-and-a-half year deal, he could be set to depart at the end of the campaign.

What has Jones said on Pochettino?

Jones believes that Tottenham would turn to Pochettino - who has previously been described as a 'genius' - if they needed to further down the line, as long as he is still available.

The journalist insists that Levy would also be open to such an arrangement and is likely comforted by the fact Pochettino remains available.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “I just feel like, no matter what, if Pochettino is still available, I do believe they would turn back to him. I think the fans would love it. Daniel Levy, I know some people think that he might be too stubborn to do that. I don't believe that would be the case. I think he too might take some comfort from the fact that Pochettino is available.”

What is the latest on Conte’s future?

According to The Athletic, Tottenham have opened talks with the Italian over a new long-term deal in north London

The report adds that the club are confident of tying the highly-rated coach down to fresh terms, while there is also an option to extend his current contract.

But do not expect Conte to make a decision any time soon. He has only stayed for two seasons in each of his previous two jobs and, if Spurs fail to qualify for the Champions League, he may feel inclined to depart.
