Leeds United’s hierarchy ‘definitely don’t want to sack’ manager Jesse Marsch despite the club’s struggles, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The Whites are currently hovering just three places and one point above the Premier League relegation zone following a difficult start to the current campaign under their American tactician.

What is the latest news involving Marsch?

A tally of eight points from their first five top-flight fixtures in 2022/23 represented a good opening few weeks for Leeds, but their fortunes quickly changed following a 1-1 draw at Everton.

Five defeats from their subsequent six league outings followed, with a goalless stalemate at home to Aston Villa providing the only rest bite on a barren run.

Ahead of the trip to take on Liverpool last time out, Marsch admitted that he has never lost so much in his career and that he was ‘sick of it’.

However, despite the odds being very much in the hosts favour, Leeds came away from Anfield with all three points thanks to a late Crysencio Summerville strike.

That shock result has instantly eased the pressure that was building on Marsch’s shoulders, providing him with more time to transform the west Yorkshire outfit’s fortunes.

What has Jones said about Marsch?

Jones believes that the Leeds chiefs ‘want to trust’ that Marsch is the right person for the job and are reluctant to relieve him of his duties at this moment in time.

In an interview with GiveMeSport, he said: “They definitely don't want to sack Jesse Marsch. They put a lot of faith in him.

“They really, really scrutinised a lot of candidates for this job and decided that Jesse Marsch was the right profile and could give them the elevation that they needed to get up the league. And they want to trust in him, and they want these players to trust him.”

Can Leeds build on the Liverpool result?

Leeds chairman and majority owner Andrea Radrizzani issued a message of togetherness following the positive result over the weekend.

"We were not rubbish last week and we are not champions tonight,” he wrote on social media. "It's a long journey, working and improving TOGETHER game by game, as always have been in these 6 years since I had the honour to join this unique club."

The visit of newly-promoted Bournemouth to Elland Road next time out will give Leeds confidence of building on their current momentum before they take on Wolves in the EFL Cup and then Tottenham prior to the World Cup.

Marsch certainly appears to have the board’s backing for now, but he will need to continue picking up results for that to stay the same.
