Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak is currently on track in his recovery from injury, according to expert Ben Dinnery.

Isak only joined the Magpies from Real Sociedad in a club-record £63 million deal back in August but has been limited to just three appearances for his new employers due to a thigh problem.

What is the latest news involving Isak?

The 23-year-old found the back of the net against both Liverpool and Bournemouth after arriving in the North East before picking up an injury on international duty with Sweden.

Isak, who earns £120,000-per-week, then suffered a setback in his recovery, and Newcastle manager Eddie Howe revealed he is set to be sidelined until after the World Cup.

"Unfortunately, he's had a setback on his thigh," Howe said. "We don't think we'll see Alex back before the World Cup. It's been very frustrating for him as a new player in a new league."

What has Dinnery said about Isak?

When asked about Isak’s potential return, Dinnery told GiveMeSport: “We have every indication at this stage that that's going to be okay. The difficulty that Newcastle had when they brought Isak in is that he wasn't 100% fit anyway.

“And circumstances were such, following that injury to Callum Wilson, that he was ultimately thrown right in the deep end, when ideally, again, we talked about this period of adaptation and the player’s acclimatised, particularly to the rigours of the Premier League.

“And he came in and did a great job, I think he got two goals in those three appearances, then went on national team duty and picked up an issue, shall we say, in training with them, and he thought it was just to be a minor concern, two or three weeks out, but he was on the cusp of a first-team return for Newcastle and then suffered that setback.

“So again, you're back to square one in terms of that process and just easing back the player.”

How have Newcastle coped in his absence?

Newcastle have coped remarkably well in Isak’s absence, defeating the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Everton and Aston Villa to rise up the Premier League standings.

Callum Wilson’s return from injury has also been a welcomed boost, and the England international is beginning to stake a claim for a place in Gareth Southgate’s World Cup squad.

That has eased the pressure on Isak to make a quick recovery and should mean he is able to be eased back into action whenever the medical staff deems him ready to do so.
