RB Leipzig's Christopher Nkunku may very well have changed the goal celebration game forever.

In his team's crucial Champions League group stage fixture away at Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday evening, the Frenchman opened the scoring.

Nkunku has been one of European football's most prolific goal scorers in recent times and has been linked with the continent's elite clubs as a result.

The former Paris Saint-Germain man's early goal against Shakhtar was his 14th across all competitions in 2022/23 and his fourth in the Champions League.

Nkunku converted from close-range after Timo Werner's poor attempt on goal was saved and after making the net bulge, the Frenchman decided to pull out a rather unique celebration.

After being joined by his teammates near the corner flag, Nkunku reached into his sock and pulled out a red balloon.

He then blew it up, placed it in his mouth and stood there with arms held out like Christ the Redeemer in front of the fans.

Yeah, we can't recall a celebration quite like it...

If EA Sports decide to add that celebration to FIFA 23, the amount of controllers broken worldwide will significantly increase.

Imagine if someone brought it out after scoring a last-minute winner on FUT Champs, eh? It'd be pure chaos.

According to Fabrice Hawkins, Nkunku's celebration was actually at the request of his two-year-old son.

Fair play, Christopher.

RB Leipzig were simply too strong for Shakhtar on the night

Nkunku's 10th minute goal was the starting point for a Leipzig rout against Shakhtar in Poland.

The German side did have to wait until the second half to grab their second of the night, but after that the opposition fell to pieces.

Andre Silva bundled home from close-range in the 50th minute to make it 2-0, before the hugely talented Dominik Szoboszlai bagged a much-needed goal 13 minutes later.

Substitute Dani Olmo then made it 4-0 in the 68th minute with his first touch and it was a goal that meant a lot to Leipzig, as the Spaniard has been out with a knee injury since the end of September.

So, Leipzig are through to the knockout stage as group runners-up, with Real Madrid taking top spot after their 5-1 thrashing of Celtic at the Santiago Bernabeu and Shakhtar dropping down to the Europa League.

You get the feeling most - if not all - of the group winners will be eager to avoid Leipzig in the last-16, particularly with the in-form and balloon-blowing Nkunku leading the line.
