Manchester United will have a ‘long-term strategy’ over signing a new striker regardless of Marcus Rashford’s form, according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth.

Rashford has started the season in impressive fashion, but Sheth does not believe that will alter the United hierarchy’s thinking when it comes to bringing in an additional source of goals.

What is the latest news involving Man Utd?

The Daily Mail reported back in July that the Red Devils were interested in snapping up Sasa Kalajdzic and Benjamin Sesko from Stuttgart and Red Bull Salzburg, respectively.

However, the duo ended up moving to Wolverhampton Wanderers and RB Leipzig, forcing United to go back to the drawing board when it comes to signing attacking reinforcements.

Despite losing Edinson Cavani on a free transfer and Cristiano Ronaldo declaring his desire to depart the club, Erik ten Hag didn’t sign a new striker over the summer.

The Dutch tactician kept faith with the options at his disposal and has largely been rewarded, although Ronaldo’s anticipated imminent exit may force United into the market over the coming months.

What has Sheth said about Man Utd?

In an interview with GiveMeSport, Sheth said: “I don't think Rashford’s form on its own would change Manchester United's thinking.

“I think Manchester United will always have a long-term strategy, and we do know that during the summer they were after a striker.

“We've mentioned it before in these interviews that Sasa Kalajdzic and Benjamin Sesko were two of the names that were strongly linked to Manchester United, who are strikers.

“So, regardless of how Rashford plays, I don't think that that would change United's thinking.”

Who could Man Utd sign?

The Manchester Evening News has revealed that LOSC Lille striker Jonathan David is on United’s radar following an eye-catching two-and-a-half-year spell in Ligue 1.

David has racked up 49 goal contributions in 109 appearances for Les Dogues and played a pivotal role in their title-winning campaign back in 2020/21.

And transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed that the Canada international is expected to seek pasture new next year.

“Jonathan David, I’m told that soon, many clubs will move and there is a great, great chance for him to make his move in 2023,” Romano has claimed on his YouTube channel.

United may well be one of several interested parties taking a close look at David’s credentials at this moment in time, and he could prove some much-needed cover and competition in the final third.
