Odell Beckham Jr shouldn’t be the top target that many people think that he is following his surgeries, claims ESPN analyst Rob Ninkovich.

With the NFL’s trade deadline having passed, the only way that teams are going to be able to improve themselves is either through the work that they do at the pracitce facility, or by looking at the free agent markets and who they can pick up without having to give up any draft capital for.

Odell Beckham Jr, a player who at his peak was amongst the best wide receivers in all of the National Football League, is arguably the biggest name currently left without a team as he recovers from his latest injury, having suffered an ACL injury during last season’s Super Bowl, helping the Los Angeles Rams claim their second title in franchise history.

Whilst one injury on his ACL is bad, what makes it worse is that he suffered the same injury back in 2020 as well, so teams like be looking to be extra careful before they decide to bring him back.

Back in October, Beckham Jr stated that he was targeting a return ‘in mid-November’ which is just a few weeks away, and he went on something of a tour of NFL sides as he looked to find the best fit for himself when he is 100% ready to return.

Odell Beckham Jr better off staying away?

However, given the state of his injury, former NFL player turned Rob Ninkovich didn’t think that him coming back would be such a good idea.

Speaking on ESPN’s Get Up (starting at 3:11), Ninkovich felt it would be better for him to take this year off so that he doesn’t rush back from his injury and put his career in jeopardy do it a third time:

OBJ is not going to do anything right now. He literally coming off a two ACL surgeries. Listen, he hurt his ACL in February, he ain't gonna be ready to go, especially in December. If I was in his camp I would say ‘OBJ, sit this year out, you'll be good to go next year.’ Because if he goes out there and he hurts his knee for a third time, what's his career? It's over.

It’s a sentiment that you can understand, especially given the fact it’s his second injury in such a short space of time. But ultimately it will be down to Beckham Jr to decide what is best for him and his career and if he thinks he can get enough out of his body to go through one last push in the playoffs.
