Manchester United could pull off an ‘absolutely huge’ deal if they manage to sign Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham, according to journalist Dean Jones.

United manager Erik ten Hag was unsuccessful in his pursuit of Frenkie de Jong over the summer, and it appears as though he has now turned his attention to Bellingham.

What is the latest news involving Bellingham?

The Mirror have recently claimed that the Red Devils revived their interest in the 19-year-old starlet after missing out on his signature to Dortmund back in 2020 when he departed Birmingham City.

It’s believed the United hierarchy have placed Bellingham at the top of their wish list for next summer’s transfer window, but they are set to face stiff competition for his signature.

A report from The Athletic last month named United among the England international’s lengthy list of potential suitors alongside a host of domestic and continental rivals.

Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Real Madrid are all said to ‘retain a strong interest’ in the England international, while Dortmund have not given up hope of keeping him at the Signal Iduna Park.

However, if Bellingham does push for a move, the Bundesliga outfit are adamant he is valued at around €150 million (£131.6m) due to his outstanding potential and the fact his £49,000-per-week contract isn’t set to expire until 2025.

What has Jones said about Bellingham?

United have made a promising start to their rebuild under Ten Hag’s guidance, recovering from consecutive defeats to Brighton and Brentford in impressive fashion.

And Jones believes it would be a significant coup if the 20-time English champions manage to win the race for Bellingham’s services.

He told GiveMeSport: “He’s wanted by a lot of teams, but can United really win a war with the likes of Real Madrid and Chelsea for a player at this level right now? Absolutely huge if they can.

Where would Bellingham fit in at Man Utd?

Summer signings Christian Eriksen and Casemiro have settled into life at Old Trafford well, forming a promising partnership alongside Bruno Fernandes in the middle of the park.

Bellingham would offer a different skill set to the aforementioned trio, though, with his passing, dribbling and shooting ability providing a more direct threat than perhaps Eriksen brings to the team.

United will surely have to qualify for the next season’s Champions League in order to stand any chance of signing Bellingham, adding more pressure on Ten Hag to deliver a top-four finish.
