Brighton and Hove Albion's Danielle Carter was involved in what was unarguably the most thrilling Women's Super League game of the weekend.

The Seagulls secured their first three points of the season after an exhilarating 5-4 win over West Ham.

England international Carter produced a spell-binding performance to contribute to her side's huge result.

What happened during West Ham vs Brighton?

It took West Ham just three minutes to draw first blood in front of their home fans. Lisa Evans popped up with a goal which many thought would rattle Brighton early on.

However, in the space of 17 minutes after the opener, the Seagulls found the back of the net three times to give themselves a strong lead heading into halt-time.

After the break, an own goal from Brighton's Victoria Williams put West Ham back in the running, but a goal each from Elisabeth Terland and Jorja Fox late on redeemed the comfortable lead.

Brighton were handed a huge scare towards the end of the match, though.

The Irons had their tails up when Viviane Asseyi netted two goals in the 85th and 86th minute to take her side's tally up to four. Fortunately for Brighton, they were able to cling on during the dying minutes and bank the win.

How did Danielle Carter perform?

Carter was involved in three of Brighton's five goals on Sunday afternoon, and her contributions all came in the space of 13 minutes.

After West Ham struck early, the former Arsenal star wasted no time in dragging her team back into the mix. She equalised five minutes after Evans' opener before assisting Viatriki Sarri's goal to take the lead.

Carter then bagged her second of the day by tucking away a penalty on the 20 minute mark.

According to FotMob, Carter completed the most dribbles (2) of any player during the match and was the most fouled player on the pitch.

She also completed 100 per cent of her attempted tackles and long balls, and boasted a 75 per cent shot accuracy after hitting the target three times.

Carter's heroic efforts earned her an unrivalled FotMob Player of the Match rating of 9.4 out of 10. Higher than any other player in the league over the weekend.

What else happened in the WSL?

While the nine-goal chaos certainly took the spotlight at the weekend, there was plenty of action elsewhere in the league.

Manchester City earned a comfortable 3-0 win over Reading, with Khadija Shaw getting herself on the scoresheet for the seventh time in six games.

Arsenal dominated Leicester City with four different goalscorers to keep their place at the top of the WSL table.

Quiz: Can you name these England players who made history at Euro 2022?

Liverpool and Aston Villa played out a very tight affair on Merseyside but it was Carla Ward's side who edged it thanks to a Rachel Daly penalty.

Unfortunately, the scheduled 2pm clash between Spurs and Everton was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.
