Former World's Strongest Man Hafthor Bjornsson suffered a big scare during one of his recent gym sessions, dropping an almost 54-stone weight on himself.

The Icelander, known to many as 'The Mountain' from the Game of Thrones series, has recently given up his journey into boxing to smash his own powerlifting records.

When squatting a 53.5-stone weight during his workout, he powers through it like it's any other day, but when he puts it back on the hook, disaster nearly strikes.

As the massive weight put him off balance, he slowly dropped it and moved his head to not get struck, fortunately managing to escape unharmed as the weight fell behind him.

Bjornsson could have had a very nasty injury, but reassured his fans in the comment section by saying: "For everyone asking! I’m thankfully not injured!"

While certainly a scary moment for the strongman, many fans were jokingly more concerned if the weight was okay after colliding with The Mountain himself.

One comment summarised the event by posting: "Rocks fall off mountains all the time.. brush it off and carry on."

What is Hafthor Bjornsson up to now?

Bjornsson announced his retirement from powerlifting last year, after becoming Iceland's Strongest Man for an incredible 10th consecutive year, but he couldn't find it in himself to quit.

After coming back, he set a few goals for himself, one of those was to break his own weight-over-bar record.

"I gave it a few years hoping that someone would break it, but no one was able to."

He continued: "So I think it's about time that I break this world record and then who knows, maybe I'll have to come back to strongman and break my own deadlift world record."

And, on October 30, at the Rogue Invitational Record Breakers event in Texas, he managed to throw 56 pounds over 20.3ft, breaking his own record of 20.2ft.

After the event, he spoke about the possibility of returning to strongman, stating: “It’s really tempting to come back, especially to compete in a show like this. You never know. I haven’t made my decision today, but I can tell you this, I might come back.”

Bjornsson was able to share the big screen with the likes of Nicole Kidman, Alexander Skarsgård, Willem Dafoe and Anya Taylor-Joy.
