Everton boss Frank Lampard has suffered a 'real blow' after Dominic Calvert-Lewin sustained an injury 'setback' at Goodison Park, according to journalist Dean Jones.

Lampard has been in the Toffees' hot seat since January, but it seems he may have to prepare for another period without being able to call upon his first choice striker.

What's the latest news involving Calvert-Lewin?

Lampard has confirmed that Calvert-Lewin was due to undergo a scan on Monday, having suffered a hamstring injury during Everton's 2-0 defeat to Leicester City at the weekend.

The 25-year-old was forced off just after the Premier League clash had reached the hour-mark, with Neal Maupay being introduced as his replacement.

Calvert-Lewin has already missed a large chunk of the season after suffering a 'freak' knee injury during an August training session.

The latest lay-off has come at the worst possible time for the Sheffield-born ace as Gareth Southgate is set to name the England squad for the upcoming World Cup on Thursday.

Calvert-Lewin is reportedly bracing himself for rejection and there are fears that he will not be on the flight to Qatar.

What has Dean Jones said about Calvert-Lewin?

Jones believes Everton refrained from rushing Calvert-Lewin back into action as they did not want to risk him suffering another knock.

As a result, the journalist feels the 11-cap England international's hamstring problem is of huge concern as his injury woes show no sign of ending.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: "They've been as gentle as they could be in bringing Calvert-Lewin back into the frame.

"This is a real blow, now, if he's feeling problems despite that. He's so fragile and it's such a worry for a player of his type to keep getting setback after setback."

Will Calvert-Lewin be a big loss for Everton?

Everton are just two points clear of the Premier League's relegation zone and although the domestic season will be put on pause after the trip to Bournemouth on Saturday, he will be sorely missed if he is unavailable for any period of time.

The £100,000-per-week star has found the back of the net 59 times during his stint at Goodison Park and, despite starting the season on the treatment table, he has still made his mark.

Calvert-Lewin grabbed his first goal of the campaign during the 3-0 victory over Crystal Palace last month, while he has also won more aerial battles than any of his team-mates.

Maupay and Salomon Rondon are alternative striker options for Lampard, but there is no doubt that Calvert-Lewin's presence will be missed.
