Tottenham Hotspur head coach Antonio Conte is set to hold discussions over a new Hotspur Way contract 'in the next couple of weeks', according to journalist Dean Jones.

Having celebrated his one-year anniversary in the north Londoners' dugout earlier this month, the Italian is scheduled to open talks over his future.

What's the latest news involving Conte?

According to MailOnline, Tottenham want to tie Conte down to a new contract and intend to open talks this month.

The report suggests the capital club are aiming to commence discussions during the World Cup and are preparing to offer an extension.

Conte's current agreement, which is worth close to £15million-per-season and makes him one of the highest-paid coaches in the world, is due to expire at the end of the campaign.

However, Spurs have an option to extend the 53-year-old's contract by 12 months and will also discuss the possibility of triggering the year-long extension when they sit down for talks over his future.

Speaking on Rio Ferdinand's The Five YouTube channel, The Athletic journalist David Ornstein has insisted that Tottenham's key decision-makers are 'fairly relaxed' over Conte's situation.

What has Dean Jones said about Conte?

Jones understands that Conte is set to hold talks over a new contract while the Premier League season is put on pause during the World Cup.

The journalist believes the former Inter Milan chief will make his demands clear during the discussions with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: "With Conte, it's going to be really interesting. He's got contract talks coming up of his own in the next couple of weeks.

"I think, as part of those talks, he's going to lay out what is needed to really kick Tottenham on and that'll be over two transfer windows. Conte will stay another year if they back him."

Should Conte be given a new contract?

Spurs are still searching for their first trophy since 2008 and, if they want to end their lengthy wait, Levy should make tying Conte down to fresh terms a priority.

He has already won an abundance of silverware during his managerial career and there is no reason why he cannot bring success to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Conte has led the north Londoners to 32 wins from his 56 matches at the helm and, while his playing style has been criticised by some sections of the fanbase, the season has got off to a positive start.

Spurs are in the Premier League's top four, while they also qualified for the knockout stages of the Champions League by finishing at Group D's summit, so there is no doubt that he should be backed and rewarded with a new contract.
