Chelsea are possibly going to sign ‘two new midfielders within the next two windows’, according to journalist Simon Phillips.

The Blues could be forced to make several changes to their engine room over the coming months due to the precarious situations of multiple players currently at Graham Potter’s disposal.

What is the latest news involving Chelsea?

Both Jorginho and N’Golo Kante have entered the final 10 months of their existing contracts at Stamford Bridge and there is no guarantee either player will put pen to paper on fresh terms.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano provided a recent update on Jorginho’s situation in his column for CaughtOffside, claiming that any potential renewal hinges on the ‘financial discussion’.

Meanwhile, David Ornstein of The Athletic reported last month that talks over a new deal for Kante had reached an impasse due to the length of contract currently on the table.

And with loanee Denis Zakaria set to return to parent club Juventus following the conclusion of 2022/23, Potter could well be without three first-team central midfielders by the beginning of July.

What has Phillips said about Chelsea?

Chelsea do still have the likes of Mateo Kovacic, Conor Gallagher and Ruben Loftus-Cheek at their disposal in the middle of the park.

Yet Phillips has informed GiveMeSport that he believes a couple of engine room operators may arrive in west London imminently, with Brighton & Hove Albion star Moises Caicedo firmly on the club’s radar.

He said: “I think the way things are looking at the moment, Chelsea are potentially going to look to bring in two new midfielders within the next two windows. And Caicedo is definitely one of them on that list.”

Who could Chelsea sign?

A recent report from The Mirror has claimed that Brighton are ready to listen to offers for Caicedo as long as they match their £85 million valuation.

The Ecuador international is also said to be on the radar of Liverpool, Manchester United and Newcastle, though, meaning Chelsea may face a tough task convincing him to make the switch.

Alternative options for Potter appear to be Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice of West Ham United.

The Athletic disclosed that Chelsea are among Bellingham’s list of suitors while Sky Sports have long reported on their interest in Rice, who was released by the capital club as a teenager.
