In his last ever match as a professional footballer, Gerard Pique was shown a straight red card by the match referee. To make matters worse for the Barcelona legend, his dismissal came at a time when he was an unused substitute. After Jesus Gil Manzano whistled to signal half-time in the Blaugrana's match away at Osasuna, Pique decided to confront the official. The centre-back walked onto the pitch and remonstrated with Manzano, before following him down the tunnel and continuing his protests.Pique was likely angered by two incidents that occured in the first half of proceedings at the El Sadar Stadium. The first was a foul on Marcos Alonso which was not called in the build-up to Osasuna's goal, a goal scored by David Garcia. And the other was a second yellow card brandished in Robert Lewandowski's direction for clattering into goalscorer Garcia, although it certainly looked like the correct decision from the official.Read more: Robert Lewandowski: Barcelona star sent off vs Osasuna for stupid challengeRobert Lewandowski argues with the referee after being sent offSoccer Football - LaLiga - Osasuna v FC Barcelona - El Sadar Stadium, Pamplona, Spain - November 8, 2022 FC Barcelona's Robert Lewandowski with teammates remonstrate with referee Jesus Gil Manzano after being shown the red card REUTERS/Vincent WestA video of Pique's argument with the official at half-time kind of explains why he was red carded and prevented from playing any minutes in his final match as a result. The experienced defender had numerous chances to stop, but he continued heckling Manzano and pretty much left the referee with no other option.Check out footage of Pique's last actions as a Barcelona player...

Video: Why Pique was red carded vs Osasuna

Pique was certainly persistent - to say the least! A red card in your final match without kicking the ball even once, we've never seen anything quite like it to be honest.

Barcelona come from 1-0 down with 10 men

Despite the fact they spent more than 60 minutes with 10 men following Lewandowski's dismissal, Barcelona rallied to pick up a priceless 2-1 victory at Osasuna.

Teenage sensation Pedri levelled the scores at 1-1 just after the break, before summer signing Raphinha scored a magnificent winner in the 86th minute.

Frenkie de Jong's pass from deep was absolutely perfect and the former Leeds United man then delicately headed the ball over the on-rushing goalkeeper.

Barcelona's victory means they will go into the Qatar World Cup winter break ahead of Real Madrid at the top of the La Liga table.

At least that's a silver lining for poor ol' Pique...
