Liverpool could be dark horses in the race to sign Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans, according to journalist Paul Brown.

The 25-year-old will be a free agent next summer and is attracting a lot of interest, and Brown would not be surprised to see the Reds make a move for him once his contract is up.

What is the latest news involving Tielemans?

Arsenal look to be the team who are the most interested in signing Tielemans, who cost Leicester £40m when he joined them permanently from AS Monaco in 2019.

Back in May, The Telegraph claimed that Mikel Arteta wanted to bring the Belgian to the Emirates, and it appears that he is still on the 40-year-old's radar.

CBS reporter Ben Jacobs recently told GIVEMESPORT that the north London club's interest in Tielemans has not gone away.

Jacobs also stated that Tielemans wants to join Arsenal, so they look to be in a good position to land his signature. As well as the Gunners, Italian giants Juventus are also thought to be eyeing the Leicester star.

What has Brown said about Tielemans and Liverpool?

While much is being said about Tielemans joining Arsenal, Brown is not ruling out Liverpool.

Speaking to GMS about the Belgium international, who has been described as an "exceptional player" by NBC Sports' Joe Prince-Wright, Brown said: "A dark horse to watch out for here his Liverpool. I would not be surprised at all if we saw Liverpool make a move for Tielemans as a free agent."

Who is Tielemans more likely to join, Liverpool or Arsenal?

A year ago, you would have said Liverpool, who managed to claim two trophies last term. However, it is probably not as simple as that anymore.

Arsenal have been flying this season; they are in the title race and now look nailed on to secure a Champions League spot.

The same, however, cannot be said about Liverpool. They are far off the top two and will enter the World Cup break outside of the top four.

It is a long campaign, of course. A team of their quality, managed by a world-class coach like Jurgen Klopp, you would expect them to recover and for things to improve.

At this moment in time, though, given the direction Arsenal are heading in and the fact that they have been after Tielemans since the summer, you would have to put them in the driving seat.
