Chelsea will prioritise bolstering their attacking options over any moves for central midfielders in January, says journalist Paul Brown.

What options do Chelsea have in attack?

The Blues have struggled to settle on a first-choice attack so far this season, especially since Graham Potter replaced Thomas Tuchel with the former Brighton boss looking to shape the team in his own vision.

On paper, Chelsea are spoilt for choice in the wide areas and able to call upon Raheem Sterling, Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech, while Kai Havertz's versatility in attack means he can also play wide if required.

However, both Ziyech and Pulisic seem to be out of favour under Potter and have been linked with moves away from Stamford Bridge, with Spurs urged to sign the Moroccan by former star Rafael van der Vaart in a recent interview with Ziggo Sports.

Ziyech has only made one start for the club this season and played just 15 Premier League minutes since Potter took over, while Pulisic has been used as a wing-back and been told to leave the club by former Premier League and US goalie Kasey Keller.

What does Brown say about Chelsea's transfer focus?

Journalist Paul Brown believes that despite having a lot of players in that position at his disposal, Potter will look to add wingers to his squad rather than boost any other position when asked if he could see the Blues making a move for either Brighton's Moises Caicedo or Southampton's Romeo Lavia.

Brown told GIVEMESPORT: "I think Chelsea are more likely to go for wingers [than central midfielders], if only because they have a lot of players in those positions who don't really seem to have a future there. I think Graham Potter in particular is trying to find ways to revamp his attack slightly."

Who could Chelsea sign in January?

Chelsea have been linked with moves from central midfield players, with Simon Phillips suggesting they could move for £85m star Caicedo, or the Blues could come back in for Lavia after reports they tried to sign him for £50m in the summer just weeks after his move to Southampton.

If they are to concentrate on further up the field, however, then it may start with the confirmation of the move from RB Leipzig attacker Christopher Nkunku. Caughtoffside have highlighted via Fabrizio Romano that Chelsea have the deal 'under control', although the German won't arrive in West London until next summer.

Wilfried Zaha is another name that has been mentioned as a possible Chelsea target and would fit the attacking wide birth that Potter is said to be looking for.

The Crystal Palace winger is out of contract next summer, which could tempt clubs to putting in a knockdown bid for the Ivory Coast international in the New Year to see if the Eagles would be willing to cash in on their talisman.
