In a recent press conference, Jurgen Klopp spoke at length about Liverpool's transfer policy under current owners, Fenway Sports Group.FSG have been in charge of the club since 2010 and they've overseen a pretty successful era.Major and positive changes have been made to both the training facilities and Anfield stadium, while the team have also thrived on the pitch - particularly since Klopp took charge in 2015.Under the former Borussia Dortmund manager, Liverpool have won the Champions League, Premier League, Club World Cup, FA Cup and Carabao Cup.Not bad, eh? But while Liverpool's recent success under FSG cannot be questioned, the owners still aren't exactly popular among supporters. When news broke last week that they're now looking to sell the club, Kopites mostly responded with messages of joy. That's mainly down to the lack of investment in the squad.Jurgen Klopp looks on from the touchlineNOTTINGHAM, ENGLAND - OCTOBER 22: Juergen Klopp, Manager of Liverpool looks on prior to the Premier League match between Nottingham Forest and Liverpool FC at City Ground on October 22, 2022 in Nottingham, England. Klopp told the media: "In the structure we have, we are able to spend money. But it was always that we have to look at what we earn. That was always the situation. How we've done it so far has brought us where we are. But sometimes you have to spend.

“The signings of Ali and Virgil, we all know how that happened [Coutinho transfer]. How we’ve done it so far, has brought us where we are. Fine. But fresh money is no mistake, nothing gets cheaper."

The Liverpool boss also made sure to praise the youngsters who're making their mark at the club, adding: “We are really happy to give our young kids a chance and I’m so happy with the impact that will have in the future. Like Harvey [Elliott] now, Stefan [Bajcetic], Calvin [Ramsay] interesting, Ben Doak really interesting.”

Fair play, Jurgen.

What is Liverpool's net spend under FSG?

Per The Athletic's Liverpool correspondent James Pearce, FSG have spent around £1.114 billion on transfers over the last 12 years, while recouping around £790 million from player sales in the same time frame.

That's an overall net spend of around £324 million - or £27 million per year, whichever way you want to look at it.

Amazingly, FSG have only exceeded a net spend of £45 million over the course of a season once during their reign as owners.

For a club with aspirations of keeping pace with Manchester City, those figures are simply not good enough.
