Spain announced their World Cup squad earlier this week and it was full of shocks.

Despite being healthy and available for selection, Sergio Ramos, Thiago Alcantara and David de Gea were all omitted from their squad.

Spain aren't the only national side that have left some world class players out of their squad, though.

We've created the best XI of players that were available for selection but have been overlooked by their nations for the 2022 World Cup. Players that are carrying injuries have not been included.

It makes an extremely strong XI and you can view it below...

GK: David de Gea (Spain)

De Gea has been in fine form this season but misses out on Spain's squad, with Unai Simon, David Raya and Robert Sanchez preferred. He was named in the FIFA FIFPro World11 in 2018.

RB: Sergio Ramos (Spain)

Ramos' injury problems appear to be behind him and he's back to his best at PSG. The 36-year-old hasn't made the Spain squad, though.

CB: Gabriel Magalhães (Brazil)

Gabriel has played an important role in an Arsenal side that are currently five points clear at the top of the Premier League.

CB: Fikayo Tomori (England)

Tomori was brilliant as AC Milan won the Serie A title in the 2021/22 season. He has missed out on the England squad, though.

CB: Mats Hummels (Germany)

"We decided for a younger player [Bella-Kotchap]. The focus was more on the future," Hansi Flick said when explaining Hummels' omission, per talkSPORT.

LB: Ferland Mendy (France)

Mendy won three trophies with Real Madrid in the 2021/22 season but has been overlooked by Didier Deschamps.

CM: Renato Sanches (Portugal)

The former Golden Boy winner has made 32 appearances for Portugal but won't be adding to that tally after an inconsistent first season at Paris Saint-Germain.

CM: Thiago Alcantara (Spain)

Spain have so much talent in midfield that they can afford to leave out a two-time Champions League winner.

Thiago is a crucial Liverpool player

RW: Jadon Sancho (England)

Sancho has not lived up to expectations after making the £73m move to Manchester United in 2021.

ST: Ivan Toney (England)

Toney has scored 10 top-flight goals already this season, but that wasn't enough to convince Gareth Southgate to select him. He answered that snub in style as he bagged a match-winning brace against Manchester City on Saturday afternoon.

LW: Roberto Firmino (Brazil)

Firmino has been back to his best for Liverpool this season but won't be adding to his 55 caps.

Honourable mentions: Wissam Ben Yedder, Ryan Gravenberch, Marc Cucurella
