Cristiano Ronaldo rocked Manchester United on Sunday night after venting his frustration during a controversial interview with Piers Morgan.

Snippets of the 90-minute TV interview were posted to social media, hours after United’s 2-1 win over Fulham, with Ronaldo claiming he feels “betrayed” by the way he has been treated at Old Trafford.

The 37-year-old also appears to have burned his bridges with United manager Erik ten Hag, commenting: “I don’t have respect for him because he doesn’t show respect for me.

“If you don’t have respect for me, I’m never gonna have respect for you.”

Ronaldo has made it clear that he wants to leave the club at the earliest available opportunity. It’s hard to imagine him playing for the Red Devils again - especially under Ten Hag.

How has Ten Hag reacted to Ronaldo’s interview?

Kaveh Solhekol, Sky Sports’ chief reporter, has revealed that Ten Hag and Man United’s players are ‘extremely disappointed’ with the manner and timing of Ronaldo’s interview.

In a series of tweets, Solhekol says United only found out about the interview as they were preparing to fly back from London following their fixture at Craven Cottage on Sunday night.

What else do we know?

Solhekol adds that United are now likely to consider all their options regarding Ronaldo.

The journalist claims management and players don’t understand why he’s said what he said and that they’re hugely disappointed he would disrespect the club, his manager and teammates in this way.

Solhekol also says Ronaldo was informed on Thursday that he would not be in United’s starting XI to face Fulham but would still be part of the squad.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner told the club he was ill.

It’s said that no one at United has ever disrespected Ronaldo, even after he asked to leave the club in the summer and when he refused to come on as substitute against Tottenham last month.

Ronaldo needs to impress in Qatar

Following his questionable antics this season, combined with his advancing years and underwhelming recent performances, convincing one of Europe’s top clubs to sign him in January might be a tougher challenge than Ronaldo expects.

However, there’s every chance that interest in his services will grow considerably if he impresses while playing for Portugal at the World Cup in Qatar.
