Arsenal could have a ‘big opportunity’ to sign Borussia Monchengladbach forward Marcus Thuram over the coming months, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The 25-year-old’s £82,000-per-week contract is due to expire next summer, and it appears he is unlikely to put pen to paper on fresh terms, meaning an imminent exit is on the cards.

What is the latest news involving Thuram?

Italian outlet Milan.Live have claimed that Arsenal, Aston Villa, Crystal Palace, Atletico Madrid and AC Milan are all taking a keen interest in Thuram at this moment in time.

And Romano has provided an update on the France international’s situation, stating that he’ll ‘consider all options in the next months’ with the January transfer window fast approaching.

“I think there will be many rumours around Thuram as he’s good player available as potential free agent in the summer,” he wrote for CaughtOffside.

“I’m told he could really leave on a free transfer, so he’ll consider all options in the next months.”

Thuram received a late call-up to Didier Deschamps’ 26-player squad for this month’s World Cup in Qatar, and he could put himself well and truly in the shop window with some impressive displays.

What has Romano said about Thuram?

Romano has outlined the latest ongoings in the race for Thuram’s signature, disclosing that the versatile attacker is ‘not going to extend’ his contract with Monchengladbach.

In an interview with GiveMeSport, he said: “So, there are many clubs approaching his agent.

“From what I’m told, he's not going to extend the contract, so it makes a big opportunity for many clubs in the summer. Let's see if Arsenal will decide, or any other club, to negotiate in January for a different price.”

Would Thuram be a good signing?

Thuram has been in outstanding form for the Bundesliga outfit so far this season, registering 13 goals and four assists in 17 league and cup appearances.

As per FBref, the 6 foot 4 ace has also ranked in the 92nd percentile for completed dribbles, 91st for touches in the attacking penalty area, 90th for total shots, 89th for interceptions, and 83rd for progressive passes received amongst his positional peers over the last year.

Thuram is comfortable playing on the left-wing as well as upfront, something that could be extremely appealing to Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta.

The Gunners are expected to prioritise the signing of a winger in the winter window, and picking up one who can also provide cover and competition elsewhere would be a welcome bonus.
