Mark Williams endured a pretty uncomfortable opening round clash at the UK Championship, taking on compatriot Jamie Clarke at the iconic Barbican in York.

The three-time world champion was far from himself, suffering from what he thought was food poisoning, with his match disrupted massively by the ailment.

It was Clarke who advanced to the second round thanks to a 6-3 victory over the world number six who he dubs as his snooker hero, with The Welsh Potting Machine surely an inspiration for many other pros.

Despite a disrupted opening frame, Williams took it thanks to a 70 break, but it was all downhill from there, with that being his highest break of the contest, with neither player able to make a century.

He did however battle away, sharing the spoils at two frames all at the mid-session interval, he was certainly riding the storm of his stomach to give him a chance in the clash.

However, after exchanging a frame each after the interval, it was Clarke who took the initiative, winning three on the spin to book his place in the next round. He’ll have to improve for the second round where Ding Junhui awaits him, as both Welsh potters were far from their best in a scrappy affair.

UK Championship: Mark Williams dashes to the loo five minutes in

Williams was at the table for his first decent chance in the match during the opening frame, after the opening red, he followed it up with a simple pink, before putting his cue on the table and sprinting back stage.

He was off to the toilet after suffering with food poisoning, thankfully, Clarke saw the funny side, with referee Leo Scullion explaining the situation to him, even the commentators were baffled by the situation, with nature calling just five minutes in.

After the match, Williams was quizzed on what happened and whether it was food poisoning or not, he responded in typical Willo fashion, saying: “It must be [food poisoning], hanging, I mean, I went out there with a pair of boxers on, by frame three, they were gone, that’s all I can say really.”

Safe to say that’s all he needed to say, we get the picture, maybe a little too much, Mark!
