Aston Villa will try for ‘many, many players’ in the upcoming January transfer window and next summer, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The Midlands outfit have just appointed Unai Emery as their new manager after relieving Steven Gerrard of his duties and could hand him a significant budget over the winter to improve his first-team squad.

What is the latest news involving Aston Villa?

Emery outlined his ‘dream’ to win some silverware during his time in the Villa Park dugout in his first press conference since making the switch from Villarreal and that he also hopes to guide the club into Europe.

“In my experiences in Spain, France and the Premier League, I played against a lot of teams in the world, and I think the Premier League is maybe the first league in the world,” said the 51-year-old.

“My dream is now to win a trophy with Aston Villa and a personal challenge. My second objective is to play with Aston Villa in Europe.”

The Villa hierarchy have been ambitious since returning to the Premier League back in 2019/20, spending around £400 million on new signings since then, although the results on the pitch have remained underwhelming.

What has Romano said about Aston Villa?

Romano has disclosed that Villa are in the market for several new acquisitions but that the chances of Emery being able to raid his former club are looking slim.

In an interview with GiveMeSport, he said: “So, Aston Villa will try for many, many players in the summer and in January. But as of now, there's still nothing advanced with Villarreal.

“And I think Villarreal will try to protect the players after they lost the manager. They don't want to lose important players in January.”

Who could Aston Villa sign?

Dutch outlet Voetbal have listed Villa amongst Club Brugge winger Noa Lang’s potential suitors as several clubs from across the continent continue to monitor his impressive progress.

The 23-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Leeds United over the summer, and it’s believed the Whites, along with AC Milan, Atalanta, Everton and West Ham are set to rival Villa for his signature.

Lang has registered four goals and three assists in 16 appearances for Brugge this season and has been included in the Netherlands’ squad for this month’s World Cup.

A string of impressive displays in Qatar would only serve to heighten Lang’s reputation and could tempt the likes of Villa into making a move for him in January.
