Manchester United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka is likely to be ‘leaving in January’ after slipping down the pecking order at the club, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The Red Devils may be forced to offload Cristiano Ronaldo in the winter window following his tell-all interview with Piers Morgan, and Wan-Bissaka could be following him out the Old Trafford exit door.

What is the latest news involving Wan-Bissaka?

Over the summer, it was reported that Erik ten Hag had informed Wan-Bissaka that he was free to leave the club as he did not feature in the new United manager’s first-team plans.

BBC Sport then disclosed that the right-back’s former club Crystal Palace were interested in re-signing him just three years after he departed south London for £50 million.

And The Athletic disclosed in the final days of the previous transfer window that both the Eagles and West Ham saw approaches for Wan-Bissaka rejected by United as it would have been too late to bring in a replacement.

Since then, though, Diogo Dalot has featured from the off in every game for the 20-time English champions until he was suspended for the trip to Fulham last time out.

However, despite Dalot’s enforced absence, Wan-Bissaka still didn’t even make the matchday squad, with Ten Hag instead choosing to play left-back Tyrell Malacia on the opposite flank.

What has Jones said about Wan-Bissaka?

Jones has informed GiveMeSport that Ten Hag’s decision to leave Wan-Bissaka, who earns £100,000-per-week, out of the trip to Craven Cottage felt like the final nail in the coffin for his United career.

He said: “Wan-Bissaka was struggling to prove he had a future at the club even before the weekend, but when there was no sign of him at Fulham, it felt like the final sign we needed that he’ll be leaving in January.

“He’s played four minutes all season and the club will now have to accept that there will be a financial hit on accepting defeat over he won’t be living up to his £50m transfer.”

Who could Man Utd replace him with?

Reliable Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg has recently claimed that United have placed Bayer Leverkusen full-back Jeremie Frimpong on their wish list.

Plettenberg states that Ten Hag wants to sign a ‘high-quality’ right-back in January and that the talented 21-year-old is firmly on his radar.

Frimpong has been in outstanding form for Leverkusen this season, registering five goals and three assists in 21 appearances across all competitions, earning him a place in the Netherlands squad for the World Cup.
