Wolverhampton Wanderers could make up to ‘three signings’ in the upcoming winter transfer window, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The Midlands outfit have recently appointed Julen Lopetegui as their new manager after relieving Bruno Lage of his duties and look set to back him financially in January.

What is the latest news involving Wolves?

Lopetegui arrives at Wolves with an enviable reputation having previously taken charge of FC Porto, Real Madrid and the Spanish national team.

The Spanish tactician revealed that he believes the club are going to ‘try and improve’ the first-team squad when the market re-opens for business in his first press conference in charge of Wolves.

"I agree because my responsibility is to try and improve. When the market opens, we have this possibility and I think we are going to do that,” said Lopetegui. “I am not going to speak about names out of respect for our players.

"We have to play the next four matches with this squad. We believe in this squad, and we believe we can improve their performance."

Only time will tell the size of the budget Lopetegui will have to work with in January, but it certainly seems as though he will have room to manoeuvre in the window.

What has Romano said about Wolves?

Romano believes that Lopetegui will have had guarantees from the Wolves hierarchy over mid-season investment, and that they will be ‘busy’ over the winter.

In an interview with GiveMeSport, he said: “So, it means one, two, three signings, it depends, as always, on the opportunities.

“But Lopetegui signed for Wolves because he knows that they will invest in January, he knows that they need new players, fresh energy. And so, I think both Aston Villa and Wolves will be busy in the market in January, yes.”

Who could Wolves sign?

Chivas de Guadalajara attacker Alexis Vega is reportedly on Wolves’ radar, although they could face competition from some of the continent’s biggest clubs for his signature.

The 24-year-old has supposedly been scouted by the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea and Real Madrid, and has been called up to Mexico’s squad for this month’s World Cup.

Vega has registered three goals and four assists in 18 appearances for Chivas throughout the current campaign and is comfortable playing on the left-wing, upfront, or just behind a striker.

Lopetegui will surely be looking to add some more firepower to Wolves’ stuttering forward line in January, and Vega may well be able to provide a solution to some of their problems in attack.
