The 2022 World Cup is just around the corner and wall charts will be pinned up around the globe.

With each and every tournament, football fans like to get a good idea of how things might play out by slapping that good old knockout round tree on their bedroom wall and tracing how their beloved nation might make it all the way to the final.

The groups are all locked in, of course, but there's still plenty of room for imagination as to how the round of 16, quarter-finals and semi-finals might line up ahead of the big decider on December 18.

Who does Carragher think will win the World Cup?

And none other than Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has jumped on the bandwagon by showing the world his thoughts on how Qatar 2022 might unfold before our eyes.

Speaking to Jason Burt on the Telegraph's YouTube channel and using their fantastic predictor tool, Carragher went through every single group, ranking all four nations in each and then calling all of the knockout ties it produced.

As you can imagine, it made for fascinating viewing with a whole host of stunning fixtures duly coming out of the hat, so be sure to check out the full video down below and keep scrolling for a breakdown of how Carragher's predictions turned out.

Which fixtures might happen?

Well, you'd hardly be complaining if Carragher's forecast came true because to say that's a staggering set of fixtures would be the mother of all understatements.

It would, after all, be an absolute dream if Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi were to meet in the final of what will surely be a final World Cup for the both of them, slugging it out head-to-head in the quest for them to add the biggest trophy of all to their claim in the GOAT debate.

Marry that to mouth-watering fixtures such as Argentina vs Brazil, England vs Portugal, Spain vs Belgium, Argentina vs France and it's fair to say we won't be complaining one iota if Carragher's predictions hold water.

However, even if the odd group result or knockout tie doesn't go the way he was expecting, then there's still so much quality across the board that stunning match-ups are simply guaranteed.

So crack out the popcorn and shuffle to the edge of your seat because it's going to be spectacular.
